I posted a short quote on a friends page a bit ago, and thought it was worth posting on my page. I have a reasonably good education (undergrad degree from an accredited university, and a master's degree from an accredited theological seminary), lots of OJT and a diploma from the school of hard knocks. There is much discussion in these days about who is educated, and who is not (in terms of what your positions are and who you are for and against in elections). That is pretty pathetic, in my view. My father didn't finish high school, yet was one of the wisest, kindest men I have known. My maternal grandfather's (native Texan) greatest disappointment in life was that he had to quit school and help support the family. He was well informed. He read the newspaper, front to back every day, and when he encountered a word he did not understand, he spelled it out loud, and went on. That still makes me smile. He, Leonard Kilcrease, was a wise, and good man. I am not down on formal education....I have one. We should remember that there are many ways to educate yourself. Let's not fall into the trap of judging those who do not have formal education credentials, nor ascribe unfair labels those that have the benefit of a good, formal education. Anyone who can read, can educate themselves...very well, in fact.
I like what John Wimber (founder of the Vineyard churches) said: "Education is great, as long as it doesn't get in the way of learning." THAT is wisdom!
