Yesterday was my Uncle Don Kilcrease's birthday. On his gravestone are the words: "Think not that stone can hold my spirit" which are taken from one of the many poems he wrote. In honor of him and his influence in my life, last night I took that line and wrote a short poem of my own.
Love you, Uncle Don!
Love you, Uncle Don!
When I Die
Think not that stone can hold my soul
When to earth I bid goodbye
While mourners seek to hinder me
And keep me from true home on high
One moment more I will not tarry
Nor leave here with a bitter sigh
My last adventure has begun
When I take flight and split the sky
Think not that stone can hold my soul
When to earth I bid goodbye
While mourners seek to hinder me
And keep me from true home on high
One moment more I will not tarry
Nor leave here with a bitter sigh
My last adventure has begun
When I take flight and split the sky
